The Ogun State Government has placed a six-month suspension on the Olorile of Orile-Ifo in Ifo local government area of the State, Oba Semiu Adewale Ogunjobi, for conduct said to be uncharacteristic of a traditional ruler.
LEADERSHIP earlier reported that Oba Ogunjobi is seen in a viral video humiliating one of his subjects, Chief Arinola Abraham Love.
The State government had in its initial reaction to the video, described the incident as very inappropriate and inhumane.
The monarch is seen in the two-minute-long video cursing Chief Arinola, who knelt down on the road while the monarch was raining curses on him and his family, accusing them of conspiracy.
The monarch also boasted that he had control over the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) while threatening to send the Chief to jail at all costs.
He further threatened that he would bury the man if he died without any consequence while also removing the cap on the chief’s head to further humiliate him.
The decision to suspend Oba Ogunjobi followed an invitation extended to him and Chief Love by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for interrogation.
The state government said the suspension became necessary due to the Kabiyesi’s reckless utterances and public misconduct, which were evident on social media and widely disseminated in the public domain.
Aside from the suspension, Oba Ogunjobi was also stripped of the paraphernalia of the stool of Olorile-Ifo, pending the determination of his culpability or otherwise regarding the allegations.
