About one week after, the Anambra State Police Command said it has not been able to make any arrest in connection with the murder of the three children of the same parents who were murdered and dumped into a deep freezer in their Nnewichi home in Nnewi-North local government area of the state.
Public relations officer of the Anambra State Police Command (PPRO), superintendent of police, SP Tochukwu Ikenga who spoke exclusively to LEADERSHIP yesterday, however, said the commissioner of police, CP Nnaghe Itam has ordered the state criminal investigation department (CID) to take over the investigation to unravel the mystery behind the death of the children.
Dead bodies of three children of Mr and Mrs Udochukwu Samuel Ejezie, including their last five-year old son, and two female children aged seven and nine years old were tragically found dumped in a deep freezer in their home last Saturday.
When contacted yesterday concerning the outcome of the investigation on the matter so far by the police command, SP Ikenga said the remains of the children had since been deposited in a morgue at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi awaiting autopsy to be conducted.
He the report of the autopsy would aid in determining the actual cause of their death.
He also said that the command had evacuated all residents of the compound and cordoned off the entire compound so to aid a thorough investigation into the matter.
“For us, this a case of man’s inhumanity to man. Our operatives have recovered the corpses of the three kids and have deposited them in a morgue, and we are waiting for an autopsy to be conducted.
“We have invited the tenants in that compound and they have made statements to the state criminal investigation department.
“We have also cordoned off the compound and relocated the tenants, so even journalists cannot access the compound now because the investigation is ongoing”, Ikenga stated further.
Also, when contacted, Mr. Ejezie told LEADERSHIP that he did not suspect anybody in connection with his children’s deaths.
“I don’t live in Anambra, I live in Edo where I am working as a nurse with the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Edo. So, I was not with my children when it happened.
“What happened was that on that fateful day (Saturday, 1st February), my wife went to invigilate examination for nursing students of NAUTH, where she teaches nursing because two of them are nurses.
“She left the children at home because she normally leaves them and go to work. They will stay on their own. We don’t have any house-help.
“I have four children. The first one is in a Seminary school. The remaining three are the ones that died”, Mr. Ejezie narrated further.
He, said that since the death of the children he had been going to the police to make necessary reports that they required from him.
He, however, said that the police told him that they were waiting for the autopsy report to be able to establish what caused the death of the children.
“I have just given the NAUTH the information they needed from me today (Wednesday) to do the autopsy”, Ejezie stated.
