World’s richest man, Elon Musk, has alleged that the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently paid $59million to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants.

Musk, an ally of President Donald Trump, announced this on Monday via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, citing findings from his team at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

He condemned the spending as both illegal and a direct violation of United States President Donald Trump’s Executive Order.

LEADERSHIP recalls that Trump signed an Executive Order to create a council to review FEMA, claiming that he has “serious concerns of political bias” within the agency.

The FEMA programme, initiated in 1979, was saddled with the responsibility of providing financial assistance to eligible individuals and households affected by disasters. The programme mostly targeted those who have uninsured or underinsured necessary expenses and serious needs.

“Sending this money violated the law and is in gross insubordination to the President’s executive order.

“That money is meant for American disaster relief and instead is being spent on high-end hotels for illegals,” Musk wrote in the post on X.

He also confirmed that a “clawback demand” would be issued later in the day to recover the misallocated funds.
