Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo has commended the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi for the ongoing construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation, and emergency repairs of Federal roads in the state.
The Governor gave the commendation when he visited Engr Umahi Monday, February 10, 2024 to discuss recent developments in the state’s road infrastructure.
Director Press in the Ministry of Works, Mohammed Ahmed, quoted the Governor to have particularly commended the adoption of Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) technology in the repairs which he said will significantly improve the quality of roads in the country.
He said, “We’ve come to thank the Minister for the excellent work he’s doing in the state. Concrete technology is benefiting us and the country, at large. We appreciate his efforts and that of the Federal Ministry of Works.”
Okpebholo further acknowledged that the implementation of CRCP in key Federal road projects has greatly enhanced the durability and performance of roads.
“With its continuous steel reinforcement, CRCP not only reduces maintenance needs but also extends the lifespan of roads. This is particularly crucial for a rapidly growing and increasingly urbanised state like Edo.
“Moreover, CRCP is especially beneficial in areas with high water table levels, as well as traffic volumes, thereby providing long-term advantages to motorists and commuters,” he added.
Responding, the Minister expressed appreciation for the visit and thanked Governor Okpebholo for recognising the efforts of the Federal Ministry of Works.
Engr. Umahi also emphasised the importance of sustainable infrastructure solutions like CRCP, noting that such innovations align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which seeks to enhance the nation’s road networks for accelerated economic development.
“The Federal Government remains committed to strengthening Edo State’s infrastructure through innovative technologies like CRCP. This commitment is integral to the Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises sustainable development for the benefit of all Nigerians,” he said.
