The PDP Youths Coalition Movement, under the leadership of Hon. Biniya Yahuza Gabari has expressed their support for Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu as the authentic National Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The declaration was contained in a press statement issued after a meeting held in Kano State, attended by coalition members from 19 Northern States.
The group criticized the recent meetings of PDP governors and Board of Trustees (BoT) members, where Senator Anyanwu’s removal was reportedly announced.
They described the move as unconstitutional and urged members of the public to disregard the statement.
Hon. Gabari emphasised that Senator Anyanwu was duly elected as National Secretary in line with the party’s constitution.
He urged party members to respect the democratic processes that elected him, stating, “The PDP constitution clearly outlines that the National Secretary must be an elected officer, and Senator Anyanwu remains the legitimate officeholder.”
The coalition also defended the PDP National Chairman, Iliyasu Umar Damagum, commending his adherence to the party’s constitution amid ongoing internal challenges.
They dismissed accusations that Damagum was biased or aligned with certain political interests.
“The issues facing the party predate Damagum’s leadership. From Ben Ayade’s defection to disputes in Ebonyi State during Uche Secondus’ tenure, these are not new challenges. Damagum’s only ‘offense’ is standing by the truth and following the constitution,” Gabari asserted.
He further noted that a court ruling had confirmed Senator Anyanwu’s legitimacy as the National Secretary, reinforcing their stance against any attempts to remove him unlawfully.
The coalition urged party stakeholders to respect the rule of law and work towards fostering unity within the PDP.
“The PDP Youths Coalition Movement stands firmly in support of Senator Anyanwu and National Chairman Iliyasu Umar Damagum. The constitution must be the guiding principle for resolving internal disputes,” Gabari concluded.
