Management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi has suspended its earlier ban on the use of gas cylinders for cooking on campus by students.
LEADERSHIP had earlier detailed how students of the university resort to using charcoal to cook food on campus which pose threats to environmental sustainability, health, deforestation and sanitation.
Dean of the Students Affairs Division of the university, Professor Sa’id Umar, stated this during the orientation ceremony for the newly admitted students.
To him, the Students Affairs Division in collaboration with the Students Union Government (SUG) has already drafted a guideline on the use of gas cylinders and management of hostels by the students.
He said after review of the policy, the university agreed to allow for the use of only 3 kg cylinders in line with other institution’s best practice, and anyone found using bigger cylinders will have it impounded.
