Some financial experts have called for the sustainability of some key policies recently introduced and already yielding results in Nigeria’s apex bank, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Though they spoke on condition of anonymity so as not be seen as patronising the CBN leadership, the experts, who are conversant with the workings in the apex bank, beamed their focus on the Operations Directorate, which they said what easily come to mind once that Directorate is mentioned is the leadership acumen of Ms Emem Usoro who they said has successfully deployed the professionalism of key players to effect major changes in the directorate that are already yielding results.

One of them, who spoke to journalists, said key among them is Mr. Olakunle Abiola, a professional accountant whose wealth of experience in both the public and private sectors, contributed significantly to the successes achieved by Ms. Usoro in turning around Operations Directorate, before her redeployment to Corporate Services Directorate.

He said, “Mr. Abiola was at the forefront of providing support and ensuring the execution of various initiatives laid down by Ms. Usoro, which led to the development and deployment of cutting-edge applications to ease the processing of MDAs transactions, as well as document/correspondence workflow, that were hitherto heavily paperwork. Ms. Usoro championed cost reduction, resource optimization and rationalization, across all the departments in Operations Directorate, while she held fort.

“Right from his youth service days in Borno State before relocating to Lagos, the young and dynamic Abiola has always given a clear cut knowledge of the country Nigeria and his focus to reform and transform the banking sector, a vision Ms. Usoro discovered and quickly utilised in the transformation of the Operations Directorate of the CBN.”

According to him, “Mr. Abiola’s recent decision to once again step into the private sector has raised questions about the sustainability of these key policies that have made major impacts in the apex Bank.”

While wishing him a milestone in his new area of service, he called on the CBN authorities to ensure that his legacies were sustained for the sake of posterity.
