The State’s Commissioner of Police, Danwambo Morris, has strongly condemned the firearm mishandling incident that occurred on Tuesday at the convention ground.

The CP said investigations so far revealed that the incident was caused by a member of the Hunters Association from Kukta Village in Song LGA, who was carrying a dane gun as part of security support for the religious event.

The weapon fell off the handler to the ground and discharged itself sporadically, resulting in injuries to eight attendees, who are now responding to treatment at a medical facility in Demsa.

The hunter has since been arrested as investigation was ongoing.

The CP warned hunters, vigilantes and other local security groups against carrying firearms, particularly dane guns that have no safety catch and other unauthorised firearms, to public gatherings.
