NCIS Clarifies Cooperative Motor Vehicle Third-party Insurance

The National Cooperative Insurance Society (NCIS) has urged its members to continue their lawful activities while ensuring they use authentic NCIS auto third-party insurance.

Addressing journalists yesterday in Abuja, NCIS Director Adetokunbo Adesanya highlighted that NCIS offers a variety of insurance products and services specifically designed for cooperatives, including Motor Third-Party Insurance, which is transacted online.

Adesanya reiterated that all issues regarding certificate authenticity, corrections, complaints, and cancellations should be directed to the telephone numbers or social media handles listed on the issued certificates.

He urged members to politely direct stakeholders, including the police and road safety officials, to the NCIS verification portal whenever they need to confirm an insurance certificate’s authenticity.
Adesanya explained that to access NCIS services, individuals must obtain and complete a membership form alongside a proposal form for the desired class of insurance.

“As a cooperative body, NCIS prioritises inclusivity and stakeholder participation, ensuring that insurance services for members are administered and managed by members themselves,” he said.

He also emphasised that NCIS operates a cooperative business model tailored to meet the income needs of local communities, making it accessible to low and medium-income business owners and private individuals without the complexities of commercial insurance.

He also warned that NCIS motor insurance certificates should not be verified on the NID platform, clarifying that NCIS is a cooperative motor insurance provider, not a commercial insurance company.

Speaking further, Adesanya reassured members that all certificates issued on the NCIS portal are valid and claims will be settled without delay, as ensuring members receive compensation is a fundamental principle of cooperative insurance.

“The essence of cooperative insurance would be defeated if members’ needs are not met,” he said, attributing concerns over certificate validity to ignorance and misinformation.

Also, the core commander of the Motor Vehicle Administration, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Adetunji Oke, emphasised the importance of valid insurance policies in ensuring road safety and preventing disputes.

“If everyone has valid insurance, there will be no need for arguments when accidents occur. Instead, policyholders can simply exchange their details and let the insurance companies handle the claims,” he stated.

Oke confirmed that NCIS insurance is officially recognised within the FRSC system and assured that the agency will continue to support NCIS in ensuring the proper utilisation of its policies.
