A coalition of youth leaders and civil society organisations has called for Chief Goodluck Chidera Nwaneri to step into the political arena, citing his outstanding contributions to education, youth empowerment, and community development.

At a joint world press conference in Abuja, the Coalition of Patriotic Youth Leaders (COPYL) and the Forum of Civil Society Organisations for a Better Nigeria lauded Nwaneri as a role model for young Nigerians and a beacon of transformational leadership.

The event was led by Comrade Rikki Nwajiofor, who emphasised the need for visionary and selfless leaders to take charge of Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“We have critically assessed the socio-political landscape of our dear nation and have come to the undeniable conclusion that we need young, patriotic, selfless, and visionary leaders to take over the political affairs in our various states.

“Chief Nwaneri stands out as a silent achiever with an unquenchable passion for education, youth empowerment, and community service. He embodies the leadership qualities required to steer Imo State toward economic revival and social transformation,” Nwajiofor stated.

The coalition noted that recognising and encouraging leaders like Nwaneri is a strategic approach to fostering good governance.

The groups highlighted that their advocacy involves not only condemning bad governance but also celebrating individuals who demonstrate exemplary leadership.

Dr Duke Alamboye, president of the Nigeria Youth Organisation and chairman of the Queen Assembly Initiative, reaffirmed the coalition’s commitment to ensuring credible leadership in Nigeria.

“We are setting a precedent by identifying competent individuals like Chief Nwaneri who have proven their dedication to societal progress. “The era of imposed candidates is over. The youth and civil society are determined to ensure that votes count and the true mandate of the people stands in 2027,” he said.

The president of the We Are United Movement of Nigeria echoed similar sentiments, Felix Tolorunju Idowu stressing that the 2027 elections would be a defining moment for Nigeria.

“We need our own candidates—trusted individuals who have made significant societal impacts without government backing. The political landscape is changing, and we are ready to ensure that those who truly serve the people emerge as leaders,” he said.

The coalition has given Chief Nwaneri one week to consider their call and respond, expressing optimism that he would accept the challenge.

The press conference concluded with a renewed commitment to mobilising young Nigerians to actively participate in the democratic process and ensure that governance reflects the collective will of the people.
