Justice Daniel Osiagor of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Tuesday ordered the remand of three employees of the Lagos State House of Assembly in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly assaulting its officers.
Justice Osiagor ordered that the trio of Ibrahim Olanrewaju, Adetu Adekunle, and Fatimoh Adetola be kept behind the bars after the DSS, through its lawyer, Michael Bajela sought to arraign them for the alleged offence.
However, the arraignment was stalled due to the directive of the judge that he wanted to review the case file first pending the arraignment of the defendants on Wednesday.
In the charge, marked FHC/L/273C/2025, dated February 24, 2025, and filed on Tuesday, the DSS accused the defendants, along with others still at large, of conspiring to assault officers of the State Security Service without any reasonable excuse while performing their official duties.
The agency alleged that on February 17, 2025, at the Lagos State House of Assembly, the three defendants aided and abetted each other in obstructing its officers while they were carrying out their duties without just cause.
The DSS further accused the defendants of cyberstalking by recording and disseminating false information on social media to cause a public breakdown of law and order.
It further accused the defendants of conspiring to commit a felony by willfully misdirecting electronic messages to social media to embarrass the State Security Service and its officials.
The DSS also claimed that the defendants used an iPhone 12 Pro Max to record false information which they send to social media for circulation with the intent of causing embarrassment to the the Service and inciting a breakdown of law and order.
The offence allegedly violated sections 516 of the Criminal Code Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, as well as sections 27(1)(b), 24(1)(b), 24(c)(i), and 11 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 (as amended), 2024.
Justice Osiagor has fixed February 26 for possible arraignment.
