Nigeria National League, NNL, side, Sokoto United has mourned the passing of former Nigeria U-20 midfielder, Abubakar Lawal.
The club’s media officer, Abdulsalam Ibrahim Imam, in a terse statement said, “Sokoto United FC is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our former player, Abubakar Lawal (El-Sharawi), who passed away in Uganda.
“On behalf of the club’s management, technical crew, and players, we extend our sincere condolences to his family, the people of Sokoto state, and the entire Nigerian football community. His contributions to the club and the sport will always be remembered.
“We pray that the Almighty grants him mercy, forgives his shortcomings, and grants him eternal rest.”
Meanwhile, the family of Abubakar Lawal has requested for his body to be repatriated back to Sokoto, and his club led by the President, Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa has accepted to foot all the costs. .
However, the club will hold Dua prayers for Abubakar Lawal at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Thursday.
