Parents and guardians have bemoaned the observance of Monday sit-at-home order in the South East by schools in Ohafia clan in Ohafia local government area of Abia State.

The order was made by Biafra separatist agitators to protest the detention and trial of the leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu by the federal government.

But, observance of the order has continued in some quarters even after the IPOB has persistently said it should only be on any day the leader is expected to appear in court.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP anonymously “for security reasons” across the clan, they lamented that observance of the order has been affecting the pupils and students negativity.

“What this means is that the pupils and students attend schools only four days a week. So, you can imagine what they’re missing academically,” said one of them.

Similarly, a mother of three and a staff of Ohafia local government council, noted that the matter is compounded by the shutdown of other sectors of the economy during the period.

According to the headmaster of one of the primary schools, the teachers are also affected and worried because they may not be able to cover the syllabus for a term.

They, therefore, appealed to the “education-loving governor of the state, Dr Alex Otti to intervene in the matter before it jeopardised the children’s future”.
