The Village Head of Saburi, Alhaji Muhammad Yamawo, has applauded the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, for his commitment to improving security in rural areas.
Yamawo made this known while speaking with journalists in Abuja, highlighting the ongoing construction of 12 Divisional Police Stations, each accompanied by staff quarters across the six area councils of the FCT.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Wike administration, aims to enhance security infrastructure and bring it closer to residents in rural communities.
Expressing his appreciation, Yamawo noted that the people of Saburi, located within the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), would never forget Wike‘s contributions.
“He has provided us with access roads, and now, with the construction of a divisional police station along with six units of two-bedroom staff quarters, security in our community is set to improve significantly,” he stated.
Resident Yahaya Mohammed, a supervisor on the construction site, echoed the village head‘s sentiments and appealed to the government to prioritise Saburi youths for future police recruitment opportunities.
The architect managing the Saburi project, Nuhu Musa, said construction began in November 2024 and is currently 70% complete.
While the site engineer, Ahmed Yahaya, expressed confidence that the construction would be completed within three months, thanking the local community for their unwavering support.
The director of the Security Services Department within the FCT Administration, Mr Adamu Gwary, explained that establishing the police stations is part of a comprehensive strategy to bolster regional security.
He noted that this initiative was a direct response to requests made by community members during town hall meetings organised by Minister Wike across the area councils.
The director said that following these consultations, Wike obtained presidential approval to construct the 12 divisional police stations and accompanying staff housing.
“We initially started with nine stations, and contracts have recently been awarded for three additional stations, bringing the total to 12, each equipped with six units of two-bedroom staff quarters,” Gwary said.
