Kaduna State commissioner for local governments and chieftaincy affairs, Sadiq Mamman Lagos, has told the immediate-past Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, that he does not have the power to decide whether or not President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani, will be re-elected in 2027.
The commissioner, who said such power belongs only to God, however warned El-Rufai to steer clear of Kaduna politics.
Mamman Lagos, a staunch ally of Governor Sani bared his mind while speaking with newsmen in Kaduna shortly after the state’s 255 councilors endorsed Tinubu and Sani for second terms.
The former governor has been critical of the Tinubu administration, since his ministerial nomination failed at the Senate.
In a recent interview, the immediate-past governor, who has also fallen out with his successor in Kaduna, accused Tinubu of being responsible for his failed ministerial ambition.
However Mamman Lagos said El-Rufai, as head of Bureau for Public Enterprise, FCT minister and Kaduna governor, had smooth tenures and ran the affairs of those public institutions, despite his “penchant for doggedly executing anti-people’s policies.”
The commissioner added, “We must set the record straight by reminding all who care to listen that our good and amiable Governor had never at any time interfered with the runnings of the state of previous administrations”.
He said Governor Sani will not be distracted by El-Rufai, who feels he has the monopoly to make or mar individuals.
He said the governor has engaged in massive infrastructural developments cutting across the three senatorial zones in the state, which he said, corrects the impression that the APC is the government of a particular segment.
“We want to use this opportunity to admonish this individual (elRufai ) and his co travelers, if any, to desist from further making inflammatory and empty threats as if he owns the key to political success in the next election.
The electorates will decide who to pinch their tents with and Uba Sani can be relied on for his compassion and soft heart for the masses,” he said.
Meanwhile, the councillors said there is no vacancy in the Presidential Villa Abuja and Sir Kashim Ibrahim Kaduna Government House come 2027.
Spokesperson of the councillors, Muhammad Sani Badiko, who said they support Sani’s return as governor in 2027 because of the massive infrastructural developments which they described as unprecedented in the state.
