Following his inauguration into the State Executive Council, the new commissioner for Information, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, has assumed duty in Akwa Ibom State with a pledge to revolutionise information dissemination with special focus on deepening conversation on the ARISE Agenda blueprint of the administration.
Umanah, who expressed gratitude to Governor Umo Eno for the opportunity to serve, charged the ministry’s workforce to brace up for the task of taking information management to the next level by bringing high level professionalism to bear in the task of publicising government policies and programmes to deepen democracy.
He commended his predecessor, Comrade Iniobong Ememobong, for his excellent work, assuring that he would build upon the existing foundation. He emphasised the need for teamwork saying that every staff member is important to the team.
The commissioner also highlighted his plans to create a department of New Media, to leverage technology to enhance communication and information dissemination, reiterating his commitment to driving the ARISE Agenda under its five-pillar initiative with 17 focal points aimed at transforming the state.
Receiving the new commissioner, permanent secretary in the ministry, Akparawa James Edet, described Umanah’s return to the ministry as a “second missionary journey” and expressed confidence in his ability to excel, given his past achievements.
He assured the commissioner of the cooperation and support of staff members to enable him succeed.
The director of Information, Aniekan Ukpong, also promised Umanah of the ministry’s support in driving the ARISE Agenda.
