Minister of State for Works, Hon. Barrister Muhammed Bello Goronyo, has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to nationwide road rehabilitation, emphasising that improved road infrastructure would help curb insecurity and strengthen economic activities across the country.

Goronyo spoke while receiving a delegation from the Youth Partnership for African Development (YOUPAD) in Abuja which awarded him the Icon of Selfless and Innovative Leadership.

Speaking at the event, the minister highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that road infrastructure plays a crucial role in tackling insecurity, particularly banditry and kidnapping.

He said criminal elements often exploit bad roads to carry out attacks, making accessibility a key factor in restoring security.

“With motorable and good roads, the activities of non-state actors become difficult. These criminals take advantage of deplorable road conditions to perpetrate their evil acts. That is why the Tinubu administration is prioritizing road construction and rehabilitation to not only enhance economic activities but also improve security across Nigeria,” Goronyo stated.

The minister also emphasized that road networks are essential for economic diversification, as they facilitate trade, boost transportation efficiency, and open up rural areas to investment.

Expressing surprise at the recognition by YOUPAD, Goronyo dedicated the award to President Tinubu and the Nigerian people, acknowledging their collective efforts toward national development.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, YOUPAD President Henry Nkem Nwankwo commended the minister’s dedication to infrastructure development, stating that his nomination for the award followed a thorough background check on his performance in public office.

Another delegate, Paul Kwabena, urged the minister to remain steadfast in his commitment to providing quality roads across Nigeria, adding that the association looks forward to continued collaboration with the ministry.

Goronyo assured that the federal government would remain consistent in its efforts to rehabilitate and construct roads nationwide, reinforcing its vision of a safer, more economically viable Nigeria under the Tinubu administration.
