Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abia State chapter, has said the purported expulsion of the member representing Isiala Ngwa South constituency in the state House of Assembly, Dennis Chinwendu, was self-orchestrated.

The publicity secretary of the chapter, Eric Ikwuagwu stated this yesterday while speaking with LEADERSHIP Sunday in Umuahia, the capital, in reaction to Chinwendu’s defection to the Labour Party (LP).

Ikwuagwu denied Chinwendu’s claim that he defected from the PDP because of a crisis in his Omoba Ward 7 as false, describing the defection as unethical and unconstitutional.

The publicity secretary said to remedy the situation, the chapter would write to the Independent National Electoral Commission to declare the lawmaker’s seat vacant without delay.

The publicity secretary asserted that Chinwendu’s action contravened Section 68(1)(g) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

Speaker of the House, Emmanuel Emeruwa had announced the defection on Tuesday on the floor of the House during plenary, citing internal ward crisis as the reason.
