The Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation (OOF) has commenced a week-long celebration in honour of the 88th birthday of its founder and board chair, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

The event, which began on March 1, 2025, at Alao-Aka Bashorun Park, Gbagada Phase 2, Lagos, highlights the former president’s enduring commitment to humanitarian service, community development, and nation-building.

The celebration commenced with a health outreach programme addressing hearing impairments, Nigeria’s critical but often neglected health challenge. After comprehensive ear screenings and care services, free of charge, over 2,000 hearing aids were distributed. The initiative, running until March 4, has already transformed many lives, offering renewed hope to beneficiaries.

Dr Olalekan Makinde, CEO of the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation, emphasised the programme’s holistic approach, ensuring that beneficiaries received tailored support. Educational sessions on ear care and preventive measures against hearing loss were also conducted.

On March 2, an exclusive dinner at Deborough Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, brought together business leaders, political figures, and cultural icons.

The event was a tribute to Chief Obasanjo’s legacy and a platform to raise awareness about the foundation’s ongoing projects.

On March 3, a seminar on preventing hearing loss was held at Detutu Event Centre, Ogudu. Prof. C. Nwalolo, a renowned otolaryngologist, delivered the keynote lecture, stressing the importance of early detection and collaborative efforts between the government and private sector to combat hearing impairments.
