NSIEC Issues Notice For Niger’s LG Polls In November

The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) has issued notice for local government elections to be held in the state by November.

LEADERSHIP reports that the issuance is coming barely five months to the end of the present local government administration in the state and to the first time that a smooth transition will take place.

The chairman of NSIEC, Eng. Mohammed Jibril Imam, announced that the activities for the election has started with the issuance yesterday.

He told LEADERSHIP after the stakeholders meeting with political parties that they are expected to start conducting primary elections by March 15 to 24.

The chairman said the political parties were expected to return a list of declaration and credentials to the commission April 3 to 10, culminating in various processes up till May 26 that the final list of contestants will be published.

Imam said the election to elect chairmen and councillors of the 25 local government councils of the state will be held on November 1 this year.

 

He said all the intra-party activities of the political parties will be monitored as a committee has been put in place to ensure that the political parties abide by the extant laws.
