While there was notable improvement from various regions, the South-South male and female teams demonstrated remarkable dominance throughout the competition, winning all their matches and ultimately claiming the titles.

This marks the South-South girls’ sixth consecutive victory and their fourth in the boys’ event at the NCF/PwC tournament, where numerous talents were unearthed.

The South-South male cricket team showcased their superiority over the South-West, with the South-East finishing in third place.

In the female category, the South-South women’s team refused to relinquish the trophy, triumphing over the South-East to secure their sixth consecutive title.

Following the event, NCF President Mr Uyi Akpata commended the sponsor, PwC, for their invaluable support in promoting the development of cricket in the country.

“For the Federation, there has been positive growth in the tournament. When you reflect on the past six years, the quality of play this year has reached new heights. I believe the success of the under-19 girls in Malaysia has positively influenced all the players we’ve seen today.

“This demonstrates that the overall development of cricket in this country is progressing, which is the primary aim of this tournament. The competitive spirit is beginning to flourish nationwide, with everyone coming together. I’m genuinely excited about this.”

Mr Tolu Adeleke, representing PwC, remarked that the tournament has unearthed a wealth of new talent capable of representing Nigeria at both national and international levels.

“Today’s final was the pinnacle of the tournament, featuring a clash between the South-South and South-West teams. There was a particularly young player who entered during the last set, displaying immense focus and determination to support his team. Although they did not win, the essence of the tournament lies in participation and enthusiasm.

“Overall, it has been a fantastic experience, and we are delighted to have discovered more talent. I am confident that this tournament has produced several promising players who will hopefully join the next under-19 teams for both boys and girls, paving the way for their progression to the senior team.”
