Yesterday, indications emerged that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Disciplinary Committee recommended the expulsion of the party’s erstwhile national secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
The committee’s report was submitted on Wednesday to the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting, which was presided over by the PDP acting national chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum.

This is even as Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye attended the party’s NWC meeting for the first time as the national secretary of PDP.

Ude-Okoye and Anyanwu have been locked in a tussle over the party’s national secretary.
Anyanwu, who had lost to Ude-Okoye at the High and Appeal court, went to the Supreme Court to reclaim the seat.

The disciplinary committee summoned Anyanwu to defend allegations of gross misconduct, anti-party activities, and other infractions against him, but he failed to appear.

Following the recognition of Ude-Okoye as national secretary by PDP governors and the Board of Trustees (BoT), Anyanwu had threatened that it would lead to chaos in the party.

Meanwhile, the disciplinary committee’s recommendations are in accordance with the provisions of the party’s constitution, 2017, as amended.

However, the NWC is expected to review the disciplinary committee’s recommendation and take appropriate action in accordance with Articles 57, 58, 59, and 60 of the PDP Constitution.

In a related development, there was a heavy presence at the PDP national secretariat on Wednesday, as party staff clashed with thugs and some Anyanwu loyalists.

There was a heavy presence of security officials from the Department of State Service (DSS), police, and civil defence at the PDP headquarters in Abuja.

The clash started after Anyanwu loyalists stormed the party’s premises and tried to lock out some NWC members who were resuming their usual mid-week meeting.

The development led to the deployment of more security personnel, who were able to apprehend Anyanwu’s loyalists and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
