A Chieftain of the Ohaneze Ndigbo, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro has called on President Bola Tinubu and the Minister for Works, Senator David Umahi not to be distracted on the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

Isiguzoro in a statement he available to LEADERSHIP, commended President Tinubu for demonstrating exemplary discretionary leadership and resolute political will in the ambitious construction of the coastal super highway.

He noted that the monumental infrastructure project, valued at N15.6 trillion, promises to stimulate unprecedented economic activity and social progress, rendering the Nigerian populace its primary benefactors.

The Ohaneze chieftain described the recent comment attributed to former President Olusegun Obasanjo characterising the transformative project as wasteful and symptomatic of misplaced priorities as not only misguided but imbued with a disheartening undercurrent of envy.

“We must, as Ndigbo dismiss Obasanjo’s claims as it is an expression done out of jealousy, strategically designed to undermine the re-election prospects of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the forthcoming 2027 elections.

“It is imperative to recognise that Mr. Obasanjo has seemingly positioned himself as the leader of a coalition of opposition that persistently casts doubt on the accomplishments of the present administration, seeking, through every available means to delegitimise the very initiatives that hold the potential to uplift our nation.

“This campaign is not merely a series of unsubstantiated criticisms but rather an effort aimed at dismantling the progress that has been made under President Tinubu’s tenure,” he said.

Isiguzoro maintained that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Super Highway represents one of several pivotal projects poised to redefine the nation’s infrastructural landscape.

“By maligning this project, Mr. Obasanjo lays bare his insecurities, fearing that another President of Yoruba descent may indeed outshine his own historical legacy as both a former military leader and elected civilian President.

“As Ndigbo, we must commend Senator Dave Umahi, the Minister of Works, whose exceptional leadership and engineering prowess set a high bar for excellence in the delivery of quality road infrastructure across Nigeria.

“Any attempt by Mr. Obasanjo and his affiliated opposition figures to undermine the integrity or effectiveness of the works of the Minister will be met with resolute resistance and condemnation.

“It is abundantly clear that such disparagement springs from a fear that the infrastructural advancements being realised today may overshadow the accomplishments of former administrations, particularly Obasanjo’s,”Isiguzoro maintained.
