The pro-chancellor and chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Udom Ekpoudom, has described the ongoing feud over alleged sexual harassment by the Senate President Godswill Akpabio, by the Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, as a politically – motivated stunt deliberately blown out of proportion.

He noted that Akpabio, was deliberately attacked as a price for his total loyalty to President Bola Tinubu, ahead of the 2027 general elections, explaining that those plotting the civilian ‘coup’ want the Senate President out of the way for them to get closer to Tinubu.

Speaking in an interview in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, the retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), expressed concern that the polity has been unnecessarily overheated over an apparent non issue that shouldn’t be dignified and elevated to the level of national discourse.

He said: “That drama is being blown out of proportion. To me, I’ve not seen anything reasonable there that it has to linger up till now. In the first place, I want people to know that nobody is being liked by everybody 100 percent.

“We should not expect 100 percent of Nigerians to like the Senate President. The reasons are many. it’s either some of them don’t want to see the Senate President succeed, or some could just want him removed at all cost, and many other reasons based known to them.

“Another thing is that the Senate President belongs to a political party and most Nigerians are members of that party, while those who are not members of that party and some that don’t think well seem not to be in tune with him.

“Even in the Church, some will like the priest, while some will not, even when the priest has not committed any offence, some will just hate him for hating sake. But whatever be the case that will make enemies of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio to hate him this much in particular and the enemies of the present government; let’s just know that they’re at work.

“They know that he’s very loyal to President Tinubu. They think that removing him will make them closer to the President, but if they don’t believe in grace (some don’t even believe in God), they don’t believe in destiny, but I believe that God created every individual and give them special grace, which Senator Akpabio, is exhibiting his own in a special way.”
