The Senate has approved President Bola Tinubu’s request for the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.
The decision was reached on Thursday following a closed-door session where lawmakers deliberated on the matter.

Earlier, Senate President Godswill Akpabio had read President Tinubu’s letter requesting emergency rule during plenary.
Shortly after, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved a motion for a closed session, citing Order 135 of the Senate rules.
The motion was seconded by Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro.
The emergency rule approval followed the suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy and House of Assembly amid political tensions in the state.
LEADERSHIP recalls that the House of Representatives had earlier in the ratified the request for emergency rule by President Tinubu.
