Death Toll In Abuja Truck Explosion Rises To 10

The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has confirmed that 10 persons lost their lives in the tragic truck explosion at Karu Bridge along the Abuja-Keffi Expressway in Abuja on Wednesday evening.

Head of Forecasting Response and Mitigation at FEMD, Mr. Mark Nyam, reported that eight bodies were taken to the morgue at Karu Hospital, one body was deposited at Asokoro District Hospital, and another at the National Hospital.

He also indicated that over 30 individuals sustained varying degrees of burns in the incident.

In a statement signed by the public affairs officer of FEMD, Nkechi Isa, some victims had been referred to Gwagwalada Teaching Hospital, Federal Medical Centre in Keffi, and Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja for further medical care.

According to the statement, the explosion resulted in the destruction of at least 10 vehicles.

After visiting the accident scene, the acting director-general of FEMD, Engr Abdulrahman Mohammed, reiterated the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations.

He cautioned against reckless driving, dangerous overtaking, and poor vehicle maintenance, urging motorists to exercise caution on the roads.

Engr. Mohammed also encouraged FCT residents to utilise the 112 emergency toll-free number for assistance during emergencies.
