The Acting Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey has disassociated himself from the statement said to have been issued by the Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum, opposing the declaration of state of emergency by President Bola Tinubu with the suspension of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy and House of Assembly.

In a statement signed by his Press Secretary, Fred Abua Esq., the Acting Governor said he was neither consulted nor was his opinion sought before the issuance of the statement.

“The position of the forum does not reflect the views of the Government of Cross River State, which fully aligns with the decision of Mr. President, taken in the best interest of national security, peace, and stability.

“Every responsible government must prioritise the protection of lives and property, and where circumstances necessitate decisive action, such measures should be supported for the good of democracy and national unity,” he maintained.

The governor stated that Cross River State remains committed to upholding constitutional governance, stressing that the state will continue to collaborate with Tinubu’s administration in ensuring peace and security in the country.
