Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf has directed all political appointees in the state to declare their assets with the National Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to ensure compliance with legal requirements.

The Governor’s directive was contained in a statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa during an Iftar gathering at the Government House, where the Governor met with Heads of Government Agencies and Special Advisers.

According to Governor Yusuf, the CCB’s Kano office reported that 60 to 70 percent of state appointees had yet to complete their asset declaration.

He urged them to rectify this immediately to avoid legal consequences.

“They appealed to me to direct you to do so to avoid the consequences of non-declaration of assets, which is enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution,” he stated.

Beyond compliance matters, the Governor expressed concern over the inactivity of some Special Advisers, stating that many had failed to provide any counsel in the past year.

“It is far better for an Adviser to send me dozens of memos than to remain silent for over a year without offering any advice on governance matters,” he said, urging them to become more engaging.

As a reward for their dedication, Governor Yusuf allocated 13 Hajj seats to heads of government agencies.

Speaking on behalf of the appointees, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Contributory Health Care Management Agency (KCHIMA), Dr. Rahila Mukhtar, thanked the Governor for his support and pledged continued commitment to his administration’s vision.

The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, also reminded the officials of their oath of office.
