The member for Arochukwu/Ohafia federal constituency, Ibe Osonwa, has installed solar power lights at nine markets in Ohafia local government area of Abia State for improved business activities.
The intervention has been described as a welcome development that would impact positively on the benefiting communities are in Ohafia, Abiriba and Nkporo.
Speaking to LEADERSHIP Weekend, the chairman of the state’s House of Assembly Committee on Environment and Urban Renewal, Kalu Nwoke, lauded Osonwa for the intervention.
The member who represents Ohafia South constituency further described it as a well and strategically thought out gesture and urged the benefiting communities to guard and ensure their proper protection.
A source at Osonwa ‘s liaison office in Ohafia said the intervention had been widely applauded by market traders and residents of the communities.
He said it would significantly deter criminal activities that often thrive in poorly lit areas and ensure safer environment for traders and customers alike.
“This project stands as a testament to the importance of addressing security concerns through practical and community-focused solutions,” he added.
A food vendor, Grace Okoro in Asaga Ohafia, one of the benefiting communities, thanked the lawmaker for the intervention, urging him to extend the gesture to other communities also.
