The Kano State Police Command has assured the public that all necessary arrangements and adequate security deployments were being put in place to ensure no breakdown of law and order during and after the Eid-el-fitr celebrations in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, gave the assurance when he received the Kano State Coalition of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), led by Dr. Musa Sufi, and members of the Police-Community Relations Committee (PCRC), led by the State Chairman, Amb. Comrade Ali Hassan Tudun Bayero, in his office.

Spokesperson of the Police Command, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, in a statement, noted that the visitors in their various remarks raised concern on the issue of security of the residents ahead of the Sallah celebrations, especially with regards to the Durbar festivities as residents feared possible violent clashes.

He quoted the teams to have stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence ahead of any other interest and advised the Command to utilise all possibilities to ensure no breakdown of law and order.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police acknowledged that certain groups have planned to hold parallel celebrations, which may raise tension and lead to violent clashes, but highlighted that the Police Command in liaison with other security agencies in the State, was re-strategising, making consultations, and weighing various options to ensure that law and order were maintained.

He, however, urged all residents of the State to prioritise peace, remain calm and report any suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station or through the Police emergency contact numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.

“As we celebrate this joyous occasion, let us remember that peace is paramount. We must prioritize peace above everything else, putting aside our differences and coming together as one people for the progress of the State and the Nation at large.

“We call on all community leaders, religious leaders, and opinion leaders to join us in promoting peace and calming tensions. Together, we can ensure a peaceful and joyous Sallah celebration for all,” the statement added.
