The Nigerian Customs Service, Kano/Jigawa Command, has commenced training clearing agents and terminal operators for the switch to the new home-based ICT clearing system called B’Odogwu.
The Comptroller of Customs, D. Abubakar, in charge of the Kano/Jigawa Command, made this known to newsmen on Tuesday at the commencement of the training session.

The Comptroller also said that the command is making all the necessary preparations to switch the current clearing system to the B’Odogwu.

“We are here today to witness the modest achievement of the Nigerian Customs Service in relation to the transition of its processes in the customs clearance procedure.

“Before now, we were using contractors to do our jobs; today, by the special leadership of God, under the leadership of the comptroller general of Customs Rashid Adewale Adeniyi, mfr, we are introducing a platform called B’Odogwu.

“It is a platform that is promising, that is transparent, efficient, and also effective when it comes to customs clearance procedures.

“We invited stakeholders, including clearing agents and terminal operators, so that we can be on the same page. We are on the path of switching off NASIS 2 and switching on B’ODOGWU any time soon, and that is why we are here.

“From the word B’Odogwu, it means Boarder Odogwu (Strength), and we have come of age.
The transparency and compliance levels are excellent and developed by our customs officers. It is indigenous,” he stated.

Also, regarding the participants, he expressed confidence that they are all at home with the B’Odogwu clearing system.

“From the demonstration of the participation of the agents, I am confident they are picking up and welcoming the development. Of course, there could be challenges because there can never be any new development that will not come with challenges. It is everywhere. But we have invited a specialist from Abuja who made the presentation. He has trained us and trained our officers on the job that we are going to deploy,” he added.

Speaking on the new system’s benefits, the assistant superintendent of Customs 1 S. Abubakar, from the B’Odogwu implementation team of the headquarters under the ICT department, said it eases processes.

“The priority is straight facilitation, and secondly, we have compliance and faster clearance time for importers at ports and borders across the country,” he stated.
