The Soun of Ogbomoso in Oyo State, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye has expressed concern over the increasing cases of armed robbery and activities of destructive herdsmen in some parts of the town.
The monarch, as a result, charged the new Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Johnson Adenola to intensify efforts towards tackling security challenges in Ogbomosoland.
Oba Olaoye made this appeal when the Commissioner of Police paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Ogbomoso, where he described the visit as significant and symbolic.
He also commended the CP for prioritising Ogbomoso as his first point of call after assuming office.
According to him, the visit was not just an official duty but a demonstration of the CP’s deep-rooted commitment to securing lives and property.
While acknowledging the efforts of previous commissioners and the professionalism of the Area Commander in Ogbomoso, the Soun highlighted the growing security concerns in the region.
Oba Olaoye raised alarm over the increasing cases of armed robbery, particularly in Pakiotan, where over 30 homes were recently attacked.
He also raised concerns about the destructive activities of Fulani herdsmen on farmlands and the rise in criminal activities by area boys at night in the town.
“These challenges pose serious threats to the peace and prosperity of our people. Our farmers are suffering, and residents live in fear of armed robbery and street crimes. We need a more robust security strategy to address these issues,” the Soun stated.
In response, CP Adenola assured the monarch of his commitment to enhancing security in Ogbomosoland.
He announced plans for quarterly security meetings to assess and address emerging threats.
The new CP also pledged full support for the Area Commander to strengthen law enforcement operations in the region.
However, the monarch emphasised that security was not solely the responsibility of the police, but a collective duty of the entire community.
He urged residents to support security agencies, remain vigilant, and actively participate in crime prevention efforts.
