This initiative, supported by FCT minister Barr Nyesom Wike, aims to enhance healthcare delivery and improve the region’s response to tuberculosis (TB).

Senator Tinubu, also the Global and National Stop TB Champion, announced this in Abuja during the observance of World Tuberculosis Day 2025.

The event was a collaborative effort by the Federal Ministry of Health, FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Stop TB Partnership Nigeria, the World Health Organization, and other development partners.

During her address, the first lady emphasised the significance of grassroots efforts in combating TB. She highlighted this year’s theme, “Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver,” locally interpreted as “We Fit Run Am; A Collective Call for Action Against TB” to resonate with the community better.

“To aid the battle against this communicable disease, I am not only committing 1 billion naira, but I am also approving the establishment of a Primary Healthcare Centre in the Sauka community.

“This initiative supports President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which is focused on building an efficient healthcare system. Dr Fasawe will oversee the implementation of this project with the support of our committed FCT minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike,” she stated.

The newly proposed centre is set to become a vital resource for TB detection, treatment, and comprehensive healthcare services, ensuring that residents receive timely and quality medical attention.

The mandate secretary for Health Services and Environment, Dr Dolapo Fasawe, applauded the first lady for her unwavering commitment to TB elimination.

She acknowledged the dedication of FCT healthcare workers whose efforts have significantly improved the health system.

“The establishment of the new Primary Healthcare Centre in Sauka is a monumental step toward boosting healthcare services, strengthening TB control, and ensuring accessible healthcare for all in the FCT,” she said.

The event also featured an exhibition by the Public Health Department of the FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat, providing attendees with free TB testing.
