The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Brig.-Gen. Ibikunle Ajose stated this during a special Eid-el-Fitr luncheon hosted by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede.

Addressing the troops, the GOC who was represented by Maj. Gen. AK Ibrahim at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Faskari, Katsina State commended the troops bravery and commitment, stating that recent operations had dealt major blows to criminal elements terrorising the region.

“In the first quarter of 2025, we successfully neutralised several high-profile bandit leaders and their foot soldiers while destroying their enclaves. These victories are testaments to your dedication and sacrifice,” he said.

Despite these successes, he acknowledged the sacrifices made by fallen and wounded soldiers, urging troops to remain focused and vigilant.

He assured them of continued support from the Army leadership, including provision of new equipment and welfare packages.

“We will not relent in our efforts. The coming months present a golden opportunity to further degrade the enemy’s capabilities,” he added.

Also addressing the troops on behalf of the COAS, Major General Ibrahim emphasised the importance of upholding the core values of the Nigerian Army, including the spirit of sacrifice, commitment, and dedication.

The Commandant, 17 Brigade, Katsina, Brigadier General B. O. Omopariola expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for the opportunity to host the event.

He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to promoting the core values of the Army and ensuring continued success in the fight against banditry.

He also acknowledged the support and hospitality of the Katsina State Government in facilitating achievements in the fight against bandits.

The event which was organised to boost the morale of the troops, featured prayers, goodwill messages, and a communal feast in the spirit of Eid-el-Fitr.
