The late kingmaker, who held the prestigious title of Galadiman Kano, died on Monday in Kano, marking the end of an era that spanned over six decades of devoted service to the emirate.

LEADERSHIP reports that Abbas Sanusi was an uncle to the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Born in 1933 in Bichi, Abbas Sanusi began his educational journey at Kofar Kudu Elementary School in 1944 before moving to Kano Middle School, now Rumfa College, in 1948. His path within the emirate council was charted early by his father, Emir Sanusi I, who appointed him as Sarkin Dawakin Tsakar Gida and District Head of Ungogo in 1959.

In 1962, Emir Muhammadu Inuwa elevated him to the title of Dan Iyan Kano, recognising his dedication and leadership. Under the reign of the late Emir Ado Bayero, he rose to the position of Wambai of Kano. His highest honour came during the tenure of his nephew, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, who bestowed upon him the title of Galadiman Kano, a prestigious role that solidified his status as a respected statesman within the Emirate
