Dr. Simon Honored for Contributions To Sustainable Infrastructure Dev’t

Dr. Simon Ofori Ametepey, a renowned construction engineer, project manager, and sustainability expert, has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to sustainable infrastructure development by the GreenBuild Company Ghana.

With over 18 years of experience in Ghana’s construction industry and academia, Dr. Ametepey continues to shape the future of sustainable infrastructure through research, leadership, and consultancy.

Dr. Ametepey, who holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Johannesburg, currently serves as a Senior Lecturer and Director of the Centre for Sustainable Development (CenSuD) at Koforidua Technical University.

Speaking earlier, CEO of GreenBuild Company Ghana, Nana Ose said he has played a pivotal role in integrating sustainability principles into infrastructure projects and academic programs. His expertise has earned him several prestigious appointments, including board membership at Yilo Star Microfinance Limited and advisory roles in national infrastructure projects.

Beyond academia, Dr. Ametepey has made significant contributions to Ghana’s infrastructure sector through his work with the Ministry of Roads and Highways. He has played a key role in executing road and highway development projects, ensuring that sustainability and efficiency remain priorities in national infrastructure planning.

Osei, underscored his expertise as an instrumental in donor-funded projects, collaborating with organizations such as the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the European Union (EU) to implement sustainable development initiatives across the country.

Osei noted that Dr. Ametepey’s groundbreaking research has earned international recognition. His book, Sustainable Road Infrastructure Project Implementation in Developing Countries: An Integrated Model, published by Emerald in 2023, has been widely cited in global discussions on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), sustainable urban transformation, and environmental management in construction.

He is also a respected member of professional organizations such as the Project Management Institute (PMI) and the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET). In addition to his academic and research endeavors, he has served as a lead consultant for major projects, including the Rock City Hotel development.

‘In 2023, Dr. Ametepey was appointed by the President of Ghana as a Commissioner for the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE). In this role, he has been instrumental in promoting civic engagement, national awareness, and policy education, ensuring that governance and infrastructural policies align with sustainability goals,” he said.

 

“Dr. Ametepey’s contributions to sustainable infrastructure development are remarkable,” said Prof. Kwame Boateng, a senior researcher in environmental management. “His work in academia and industry is shaping policies and practices in sustainable construction.”

Nana Osei, further highlighted his his impact, his ability to merge technical expertise with sustainability is a game-changer for Ghana’s infrastructure sector.”

With ongoing research and active involvement in policy formulation, Dr. Ametepey remains committed to advancing sustainable infrastructure development in Ghana and beyond.
