One of the two aspirants for the ticket of the governorship ticket of Labour Party (LP) for the forthcoming November 8, 2025 Anambra State election, Mr. John Nwosu, has withdrawn from the party’s primary election slated this weekend.

Nwosu, in a press statement made available to journalists, alleged that several irregularities have trailed the plannings for the conduct of the primary election, which according to him, included non-compliance with the party’s constitution and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of such exercise.

Nwosu alleged that there was no delegates congress of the party held in any the 21 local government areas of the state to elect the delegates to vote at the primary election and that a list of delegates eventually emerged and pasted at the state headquarters of the party in Awka, just about eight hours to the D-Day, Saturday, April 5, 2025.

He also noted that the planning for the governorship primary was illegally supervised by the former national chairman of the party, Barr. Julius Abure, during the period his tenure had expired following the Friday’s verdict of the Supreme Court, which sacked him a day to the planned governorship primary election.

He argued that all the activities of Abure-led LP during the period after his tenure expired were tainted with “illegality”.

Nwosu said he decided to withdraw from the party’s governorship primary so as to protect his integrity and principled Christian values.

Meanwhile, with Nwosu’s withdrawal from the LP governorship primary election, only the former managing director of the National Inland Waterways (NIWA), Chief George Moghalu, is left to contest in the exercise unopposed.
