Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of a renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Idris Abdulazeez Dutsen Tanshi, who passed away on Thursday.

In a condolence message he personally signed on Friday, Dogara said he received with shock the news of the passing of his brother, friend, and patriot, Sheikh (Dr) Abdulazeez Idris, who died on April 3, 2025.

“I have known and related closely with Malam, and our relationship grew even stronger in 2023, as we bonded like brothers while rallying Bauchi citizens to free themselves from the fetters that bind them.

“I can say that Malam’s heart always beat for the downtrodden,” he said.

Dogara described the late scholar as courage-personified, fearless and one who would never shy away from speaking truth to power regardless of who was involved.

“He was not just an Islamic cleric, but a selfless leader and an uncommon philanthropist. He will be sorely missed by all,” Dogara stated.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, his followers, disciples and the peace-loving people of Bauchi State.

Dogara also prayed that Allah grants his family and followers the fortitude to bear the loss.
