Abia State governor, Dr Alex Otti has declared that he will retire from active politics without seeking senatorial seat after serving the state for second term as governor.

Otti stated this during the weekend at a reception organised in his honour by the Aba Branch of the Union of Anambra State Associations, in Aba.

“I will not be interested in the senate after my second term, but would retire from active partisan politics to allow the younger ones to serve,” Governor Otti said.

According to the governor, he is in government to serve and give the people their hearts’ desires by delivering democracy dividends and to correct the wrongs in the system by previous regimes.

He said he was taking a look at the disengagement of non-indigenes from the state civil service in 2011 by a previous administration which also affected the people from Anambra State.

Otti, who noted that though the exercise occurred long before he came to power in 2023, assured that his administration was considering how to assuage the plights of its victims.

The governor thanked the people of Anambra State and others for the support they have given him since 2023, assuring that his administration does not discriminate.

“For us, that thing called state of origin, we have already abolished it. I maintain, if you live here and you are a good citizen, you pay your taxes here, you are from here,” he added.

Speaking, the member for Aba Central constituency in the House of Assembly, Stephen Ucheonye, assured the Governor that 2027 had been settled for him, saying what remains now is for Otti to prepare for the senate in 2031.

Earlier, the president of the Aba branch of the Union of Anambra State Associations, Obiora Nwakpadolo, lauded Governor Otti for the achievements he had recorded in office, assuring him of their continued support and cooperation.
