The much-anticipated 2025 Captain’s Cup tournament officially teed off this morning at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, with no fewer than 300 golfers vying for prestigious honours. This year’s tournament, aptly titled “Tiger Bows Out,” celebrates the successful tenure of the outgoing club captain, Ibrahim Babayo.

Set to unfold over six exhilarating days, the championship features a diverse range of competitions, including categories for caddies and staff, men’s and women’s divisions, professional golfers, sponsors, veterans, and super veterans. The tournament will culminate in an 18-hole event on the final day.
Captain Ibrahim Babayo praised the efforts of his executive committee, highlighting their significant achievements both on the course and within the clubhouse. Reflecting on their journey since taking over in April 2024, he stated, “We set our sights on our dreams, just as golfers keep their eyes on the green. Our greens are now thriving, a stark contrast to the previous state.”

Under Babayo’s leadership, the club has seen numerous improvements, including the renovation of the access gate, a complete facelift of the reception area, upgraded air-conditioning systems in the clubhouse, and the implementation of forensic audits to enhance corporate governance. He noted, “We have changed the club’s booking app to meet world standards and revamped our website to ensure it is current. The beautification efforts and the installation of solar lighting for all holes have also been significant steps forward.”

Babayo credited their accomplishments to the collective teamwork of the executive members, who have established a high standard for future leaders of the club.
He extended his gratitude to the Organizing Committee, led by Ambassador Ben Okoyen, for their hard work in orchestrating what promises to be a memorable championship.
