Following the upsurge in thuggery and youth restiveness, Niger State Police have arrested 61 suspects for allegedly causing mayhem in Minna, the state capital.

LEADERSHIP findings revealed that the youths from Angwan Raji, Maitumbi, Saiko, Barikin Sale, parts of Kpakungu and Minna centre were frequently engaging in thuggery and snatching of bags and phones.
It was learnt that some of their collaborators allegedly ride the popular tricycle (Keke Napep) with dangerous weapons like sharp knives and cutlasses they use to rob innocent residents.

Consequently, sources hinted that the new Commissioner of Police Adamu Abdullahi Elleman has vowed to check the excesses of the youth and vowed to nip their activities in the bud.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Wasiu Abiodun confirmed that 19 suspects were arrested in a sting operation led by Area Commander Minna within Angwan-Daji and its environs.

Also, he said 23 suspects were arrested at a hotel within Tunga with shisha smoking apparatus and other illicit drugs and cannabis, even as 13 others were arrested within the Angwan Daji community with dangerous weapons.
