An exclusive investigation by our correspondent revealed that many people have joined sack farming because of inconsistent rains.

Our investigations also revealed traders now go from one house to another to buy used sacks.

It was gathered that a 50kg sack, which was sold at around N300 before, is now being sold at more than N400.

It was further learnt that the increment was due to the rise in the demand of sacks by farmers in the state.

A sack trader, Mr Ignatius Okonkwo, attributed the increase in the price of sacks to the increasing demand by farmers and expressed happiness that sacks” are now hot cakes”.

” My brother, honestly before we were not making serious gains from sacks especially the used ones but the demand is now too much forcing us to increase the price.

” We decided to increase the price because before the boom, people were almost giving us their used sacks for free, but nowadays, since farmers started to embrace sack farming, they now sell them to us, hence the increment,” he stated.

A farmer, Mrs Ifeoma Obigeri said they decided to embrace sack farming because of the delayed rains.
