A health practitioner at Masakan Makafi Health Care Centre, Dr. Ibrahim Dalhatu, has asked residents of Bauchi to prioritise hydration as the state experiences an intense heatwave, noting a growing risk of dehydration, particularly for vulnerable groups.

Speaking to our correspondent, Dr. Dalhatu noted that dehydration poses significant health dangers, including headaches, fatigue, and severe conditions like heatstroke.

“The changing weather patterns are hitting hard, especially on the elderly and young children. Staying hydrated is not just advisable, it’s essential,” he said.

The health expert recommended drinking plenty of water throughout the day, advising residents to avoid sugary drinks and excessive caffeine, which can exacerbate dehydration.

He also stressed the need for public awareness campaigns to mitigate the risks.
