Nigerian youths have been urged to reject violence and immoral behaviour while embracing initiatives that foster community growth and individual development.

The call was made by a youth leader and philanthropist, Elder Philip Osamor, during a meeting with youth groups and women leaders in Ogbe Oba community of Delta State.

Speaking against the backdrop of a crisis in the community in August 2024, Elder Osamor addressed the youths’ reaction to allegations involving Mr. Zubby Jacob Ike, who was accused of homosexual acts. The controversy led to the youth of Ogbe Oba calling for his expulsion from the community and his subsequent disappearance.

Elder Osamor condemned the violent actions that followed the allegations, describing them as unfortunate. He called on the youth to reject such violence and adopt a more productive mindset.

“Violence and immorality do nothing for the growth of our society. Rather, engage in activities that promote peace, unity, and development,” he said.

He also emphasised the importance of self-improvement, encouraging the youth to take advantage of the ICT and skills acquisition center he established in the community.

According to Osamor, this initiative will help equip the youth with the skills needed for success in the digital economy.

“Stay away from violence, immoral acts, and behaviours that are prohibited in our society. Imbibe discipline and tolerance, and ensure you are constantly working on your personal development,” he added.

The meeting also included women leaders and focused on empowering the community’s youth to build a brighter future through peaceful and constructive efforts. Elder Osamor’s call for discipline and tolerance resonated with the attendees as the community looked forward to healing and moving past the crisis.
