The high energy crime thriller, ‘Owambe Thieves’ is one that movie lovers will love to watch and enjoy. Set for release next week during Easter, Friday, April 18, 2025, the movie is co-produced by delectable actor, Eniola Ajao and FilmOne supervising producer, Barbara Babarinsa.

Directed by Adeoluwa Owu, ‘Owambe Thieves’ is about Cheta and Lola, a young couple with a newborn child, struggling to make ends meet at the peak of one of the worst recessions ever in the history of Nigeria.
The co-producers Eniola Ajao and Barbara Babarinsa, while speaking to LEADERSHIP Weekend, stated that it was a daunting task and she prepared herself for the project which would go to the box office.
“It was always going to be a daunting task but, I was ready for it. It’s not my first time of producing a project that would go to the box office however, this one is totally different; the role I took (Lola) was a high-energy one and, having to keep an eye on the entire production as the producer took a lot of courage and grit. I’m grateful to God for the strength and everyone on set who made it easy for me to pull off.

“This project was a different ball game altogether. I won’t say the terrain is totally different from what I experienced during Ajakaju (Beast of two worlds) however, Owambe Thieves is a modern project with lots of dynamics and turns; as a filmmaker, no two projects are the same, I enjoyed the entire process despite how challenging it was and it now a huge part of my learning curve.”

What truly drew me in was the heart of the story. Beyond being vibrant, bold, and unapologetically Nigerian, it highlights experiences that everyone who loves a good party has witnessed. Mixing high-energy party culture with a thrilling crime element felt fresh and exciting. I wanted to be part of something that wouldn’t just entertain but also resonate with people, something that would make them laugh, gasp, and say, “I’ve seen this happen before.

“We wanted to create a film that felt rich and immersive, capturing the extravagance of an Owambe while maintaining a gripping narrative. Logistics, time constraints, and maintaining top-tier production quality were constant battles, but the team’s passion made all the difference. We pushed boundaries, stayed committed, and I’m incredibly proud of what we achieved.” Barbara stated.

Speaking on the power of diversity in Owambe Thieves, Eniola Ajao added that the power of diversity, which is one of our major strength as Nigerians, was well explored in the movie and I can’t wait for people to experience it. I am confident they will enjoy it,” says Eniola.
