Declaring the workshop open at Dankani Hotel, Sokoto, the state commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Abba Kalgo, tasked participants to be committed and dedicated to the training.

The permanent secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Kudirat Shoaib Udiri, disclosed that the training was designed to implement efficient strategies for budget planning, coordination, and resource allocation in line with the state’s development objectives.

“This training is about ensuring we have an efficient budget built on sound planning, coordination, and effective resource allocation.

“We are reflecting on past challenges and learning from them, using the National Chart of Accounts as a guide to promote transparency and accountability in the budget process,” she stated.

Mrs Udiri emphasized the importance of getting every detail right, including the correct naming of projects and accurate pricing. “If there were mistakes in previous years, this is the time to correct them.”

Similarly, the special adviser to the state government on Budget Matters, Mrs Aisha Usman, said “the essence of the workshop is to get all MDAs on board, so that they would know how to prepare a clean budget that conforms in line with global best practices.

“My expectations at the end of the training will be, all MDAs to be able to produce a good 2026 budget that can pass all the budget criteria required.”

Topics treated at the workshop include, introduction to public financial management, budgeting and key budget reforms; common budget errors and standard project description in the budget; plenary feedback session; revenue forecasting (recurrent and expenditure); pre-bilateral budget quality review and, monthly expenditure reporting and tracking template.

The workshop brings together Directors of Finance, Planning, and Statistics from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), the key players in the state’s budget preparation and control.

The training will lead to more transparent, accountable, and result-oriented budgeting that aligns with Kebbi State’s developmental goals.
