Police Arrest Man Over Abuse Of Woman In Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested one Umar Shaibu over alleged physical abuse of a woman seen in Jimeta area of the state.

Shaibu was arrested following the widespread circulation of a disturbing video, according to the Adamawa Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Suleiman Nguroje.

A 22-year-old woman, Salamatu Yakubu of Angwan Tana was reportedly physically assaulted and severely beaten on March 13, 2025, by the suspect, Shaibu who is said to be Salamatu’s uncle.

During the assault, an individual recorded the incident and shared the video on social media.

The incident sparked criticisms resulting in the call to the police by concerned citizens, Good Samaritans, nongovernmental organisations and civil society bodies to apprehend the suspect.

Shaibu was apprehended with the assistance of concerned citizens through community policing strategies.

The victim has been taken to the hospital for medical attention and is responding to treatment.

The suspect is currently in custody at the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for diligent investigation and prosecution.

The Command assured the public that the case will be thoroughly investigated and the suspect prosecuted under relevant sections of the law.
