Two worshippers who were abducted during prayers at a remote mountain in Egbola area, along Agbaja Road in Lokoja local government area of Kogi State have been released.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Kogi State Command, SP William Ovye Aya however clarified that only two worshippers were kidnapped in the attack and not many as was reported in certain quarter.

SP Aya who disclosed this to our correspondent in a telephone conversation described the report of many abduction as false and misleading.

Gunmen had in the early hours of Friday last week stormed a prayer session at the mountain and whisked the victims away.

The Kogi Police spokesperson said the kidnapped worshippers were rescued immediately by combined security forces.

“In the night, they went to the mountain to pray. So, the gunmen went and abducted two of them.

“When the information got to us, the Police, in collaboration with vigilantes chased them into the bush.

At a point, when the pressure became too much on the criminals, they abandoned their victims and they escaped from their abductors,” the PPRO said.
