A stalwart of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and chairman of the Bauchi State Assembly Aspirants Forum, Honourable Mohammed Aliyu Songuy, has called on Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi to team up with Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

In a conversation with our correspondent in Gombe, Aliyu urged the duo to join SDP claiming that the PDP has been infiltrated by APC members who are allegedly sponsoring internal crises, rendering it ineffective.

He posited that the SDP has emerged as a formidable force, attracting prominent Nigerians like Nasir El-rufai, Hamza Almustapha who are rallying others to form a grand alliance against the APC.

According to him, Obi should consider running as Atiku’s running mate to leverage their combined strength and rescue Nigeria from the APC’s perceived maladministration.

Aliyu emphasised that an alliance between Atiku and Obi would be a game-changer, given their significant voter bases.

“Atiku garnered nearly seven million votes, while Obi secured around six million votes in the 2023 presidential election, surpassing the APC candidate’s eight million votes.

“I believe that a joint ticket would have easily defeated the APC’s candidate. Obi enjoys massive support in the South East, which will complement Atiku’s national appeal, making their ticket a formidable challenge to the APC’s Tinubu in the next election. Atiku should forget running under PDP this time because Nigerians have no trust in it due to the intrusion of the APC government people into it”, he stated.
