The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said the Edo State Chapter of the PDP is under the leadership of Hon. Tony Aziegbemi-led Caretaker Committee.

The national publicity secretary of PDP, Hon Debo Ologunagba, recounted that the National Working Committee (NWC) at its meeting of 6th of February, 2025 and pursuant to its powers under the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017) constituted the Tony Aziegbemi-led Caretaker Committee to pilot the affairs of the party in the state for a period of 90 days effective from February 6, 2025.

Ologungaba, in a statement, said “Party members, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, the media and the general public should therefore disregard any contrary claim on the leadership of the Edo State Chapter of the PDP.”

Meanwhile, the Conference of Professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party (CP-PDP) has commended PDP State Governors for their efforts in providing direction for the repositioning of the party for electoral success in 2027

The conference said, after its weekly State of the Party Review session, that the recommendation by state governors for the convening of the party’s National Executive Meeting on May 27 and early National Convention in August 2025 respectively is a major step towards strengthening and returning the PDP to its winning ways ahead of the 2027 general election.

According to a statement by the protem national coordinator of CP-PDP, Barr. Obinna Nwachukwu, the PDP governors and other party leaders articulated a willingness to work with other political parties, platforms, groups and patriotic Nigerians for a formidable front to wrest power from the APC in the 2027 general election.

The CP-PDP said they have commenced the process of activating pro-bono mechanisms to massively rally Nigerians across political, professional, business, social, sectional and cultural circles across the six geo-political zones of the country.

The statement added, “Our desks are open to receive proposals, suggestions and recommendations for the task ahead.”

Nwachukwu further said the CP-PDP has also commenced consultations among members of the party with a view to making professional inputs that will help strengthen the party’s internal democracy and guarantee the election of the desired leadership for the PDP at the proposed National Convention.

“The Conference encourages qualified and competent members of our party to show interest in appropriate NWC positions so as to further guarantee the best hands to pilot its affairs of the party, preparatory to 2027 general elections.

“This is especially bearing in mind that the leadership that emerges at the National Convention must be such that can effectively confront the ruling APC and rally Nigerians for the party’s victory at the 2027 general elections.

“The Conference calls on all leaders and members of the PDP to get the party back to its winning ways by setting aside all forms of parochial personal, group or sectional interests, have an open mind and be ready to work with other like-minded entities to enthrone good leadership that has eluded the nation in the last 10 years of APC misrule,” the statement noted.
